*I am American, originally from Kentucky and I’ve lived in Paris for 5 years and I am French-English bilingual
*I have 8 years of experience as a teacher of language, literature and history-geography in English at schools both in United States and at l’Ecole Alsacienne in Paris.
*I am a certified to teach English as a foreign language (TESL) and am an expert in IELTS preparation.
*I’ve already helped hundreds of students to improve their level of English and their IELTS score. I also specialize in this tests and in the research of the methods which are the highest performing and easiest to put to work to resolve the most difficult problems.
I have a Master’s degree from one of the best American universities.
My specialties as a professor
Teaching is a passion and a vocation for me. I am always looking to improve my pedagogical practice and to innovate in my method of teaching.
I frequently travel to the U.K and the U.S.A and I am very up to date with current affairs in English speaking countries.
I am a warm and dynamic person who is truly involved in the success of my students and their well-being, both in an academic sense and a personal sense.
Very contactable and available to my students and their family, I also share numerous resources (videos, articles and books) and talk regularly with them between sessions.
My teaching philosophy is based on 5 pillars:
- Establish a relationship of trust with each student and allow them to get out of their comfort zone and to be confident in their learning capacities
- Construction of innovative learning experiences outside of rigid academic methods
- Coaching each student with their belief in their potential (“I can” attitude and “Growth mindset”) and equip them with tools adapted to their needs.
- Favor the assimilation of English by the same method of learning as the maternal language : a supple and less rigid method than a traditional classroom
- Putting language learning in a cultural space through literature, their clothes and their history
Typical proceedings of a lesson :
*Initial diagnosis
During the first session, I will proceed to assess the English level of the student.
I will also ask them to complete a practice test for the exam that they want to prepare in order to evaluate their current score, to identify their difficulties and to develop an adapted strategy.
I will also share numerous resources and recommendations so the student can work individually between sessions.
*Definition and co-creation of measurable objectives. We will then define and co-create with the student measurable objectives to attain at short, medium and long term and put them in a larger context, outside of simply succeeding in the exam (academic and professional objectives).
*Structure type of a session
At the start of the session, we discuss with the students about the difficulties that she or he has encountered in their personal work since the last session and on the questions or points of difficulty which have arisen.
We will eventually adapt the objectives of the session according to the development of the student’s learning.
Every session includes a combination of:
-scenarios
-discussion on the cultural, grammatical and idiomatic elements,
-formal and informal exercises
-regular mini-evaluations
-use of technological tools,
-doing parts of tests in real conditions
