HEC Paris is one of the most prestigious and successful business schools in the world. It has consistently been ranked as the best business school in France – as Le Figaro’s “Classement des Grandes Écoles de Commerce 2019” shows – and exists on a global level as one of the top business schools in the entire world. Former alumni of HEC have been known to achieve much public success in the world of business after moving on from their studies. The Grande Écoleboasts more CEOs of Fortune 500 companies than any other school on the globe and as #3 educational institution behind none other than Harvard and Stanford university. HEC has equally been home to several heads of states and governments, as well as to a large sum of business, artististic and political figures such as former president of France François Hollande. Ranked by The Economist in 2017 as having the 2nd most powerful business school alumni network in the world, it seems clear that a place at this prestigious school will open a plethora of doors in the business and political worlds for those with aspirations in such fields.
HEC Paris is perhaps best known for its flagship Masters in Management program. The school places first in the entire world for this specific program, according to QS World University rankings 2018 and 2019. The philosophy behind the program is to use a rigorous and testing admissions process that leaves only the best students and to then guide them towards top careers in management. As part of the course, first year students may complete 1 semester at a foreign business school such as the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. This allows HEC students to have access to teaching at its peer institutions who are also the best and most prestigious business schools around the world. In order to graduate from HEC on the Masters in Management program, the elite Business School also requires you to have at least 8 months of internship experience at top management firms. This means that students graduate from HEC with both experience in management in the workplace and the requisite skills acquired over the course of their studies. It seems no surprise, therefore, that the School has produced heads of state for 6 different countries, namely, France, Mexico, Cambodia, Guinea, Senegal and Serbia!
The Grande Ecole is situated on a vast and beautiful woodland campus that is built around a 19th-century French chateau. The chateau itself is an impressive neoclassical building with an English garden and is currently used for the classes in Executive Education. The grounds of the campus span an impressive 270 acres thanks to former French President Charles de Gaulle, who inaugurated the new wooded campus in Jouy-en-Josas in 1964. On campus, accommodation is provided for most students across 1400 rooms and dormitories. Plans have also started for the construction of a new 96-room residence, which will allow more students to live on site. There are also a variety of food and drink options available on campus, with the pizzeria across the road being a Friday night favourite! The 3 cafeterias and 1 bar on site also creates a strong social feel for the HEC campus. Felix Peeters, an M1 student from Belgium, states: “It’s wonderful to live on campus. From meeting people in the hallway to unexpected dorm parties, it is the ultimate campus experience”. The combination of academic excellence, an unrivalled alumni network and a vast and sociable campus, really does make HEC Paris an incredible option for anyone looking for the possibility to live and learn in an entrepreneurial environment steeped in French tradition and open to innovative ideas from around the world.
